We're all familiar with the main stars and characters of Auf Wiedershen, Pet - but here we recall some of the co-stars who also made a memorable contribution to the classic TV series. Running between November and Februaryseries one, set on a building site in Germany, quickly became one of the nation's most popular shows with viewing figures hitting nearly 20 million for some episodes. A second series set in the Midlands and Spain followed in Then, after a gap of nearly 15 years, the new millennium saw the show return for two more series and a TV special in the early s.

The first two '80 outings, especially, saw TV viewers take the show to their hearts and Auf Wiedersehen, Pet remains a firm favourite today. Based on an original idea by Franc Roddam, series one was expertly written by the renowned duo of Dick Clement and Whitley Bay -born Ian La Frenais, who were also responsible for such masterpieces as the Likely L and Porridge. And then, of course, there was the brilliant cast of actors, mostly unknown at the time - including the three principal Tyneside stars - who created such memorable and lovable characters.

Our recent feature recalled Dennis, Oz, Neville, Barry, Moxy, Wayne and Bomber, the actors who portrayed them, and what became of them. But there was also a fine supporting cast of actors who helped transform Auf Wiedersehen, Pet into TV gold during the first two series. Who can forget the Glaswegian gangster Ally Fraser, and his glamorous young Geordie girlfriend Vicky?

Here, we recall six of the supporting stars who were integral to the show's enduring appeal. We'll return to remember other cast members at a later date. Don't miss our new Memory Lane local history website that's packed with archive photographs and has an easy-to-use picture colourisation tool. Ally Fraser was the smooth-talking Glaswegian gangster who enjoyed a prominent part in series two.

The actor's portrayal of the sometime charming but often menacing Ally Fraser was an Auf Wiedersehen, Pet highlight. She was the typical '80s lass', enjoying nice clothes, hair-dos, as well as a luxury lifestyle in the Spanish sunshine, paid for by the dodgy dealings of her older boyfriend. As the series reaches its conclusion, we find out that Ally is really a bit of a cad, and Vicky ends up, secretly and somewhat surprisingly, in the arms of Oz, as memorably played by Jimmy Nail.

The often dippy character played by Tyneside-born Lesley Saint-John had a real girl-next-door authenticity. Lesley told the Chronicle in " To me, Ant and Dec two of Byker Grove's early stars will always be little l, so for them to go on to be such huge stars is a bit surreal. When Dennis travels to Germany to work as a bricklayer in series one, he is leaving behind a Tyneside where mass unemployment is rife and where his marriage to Vera is on the rocks and heading towards divorce.

Dagmar was played by British-born German actor Brigitte Khan. In lateTim Healy and Khan were pictured together on a newspaper photo call at Newcastle Quayside and there was press speculation Dagmar would reappear in the upcoming second series to be reunited with Dennis.

In the event, it was not to be. Meanwhile, Dennis is enjoying a fresh start with Dagmar in Germany - until there's a very late twist in the tale. In a poignant scene towards the end of the series, Dennis is asked by Dagmar: "So what is it to be?
